Planning for Climate Resilience | City of Asheville, North Carolina

Summary

This report highlights an assessment of potential climate-related impacts, vulnerabilities, and risks for the City of Asheville that were identified during the planning process. The assessment phase of this work provided a foundation on which to evaluate existing policies and identify new options that reduce vulnerability and build resilience. These new options either (i) reduce exposure of assets to hazard events, (ii) increase the ability to cope with potential impacts, or (iii) support response and recovery following an event.

Lessons Learned

In the process of identifying and prioritizing resilience strategies, it was important to recognize steps that the city has already taken and strategies that the city and stakeholders are already working to implement. The findings of the assessment support continuing these efforts and strategies to help build resilience.
