Natural Hazard Map
This customized map integrates information from Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) National Risk Index (NRI) and the Build for the Future Funding Navigator. Explore the map to see more information about your community’s risk ratings for each of these 18 natural hazards and to view a pre-filtered list of funding opportunities that can help build resilience to hazards your community faces.
FEMA has developed the NRI, which uses historical data to estimate the potential for negative impacts to counties and census tracts as a result of these 18 natural hazards: avalanche, coastal flooding, cold wave, drought, earthquake, hail, heat wave, hurricane, ice storm, landslide, lightning, riverine flooding, strong wind, tornado, tsunami, volcanic activity, wildfire, and winter weather. In addition to natural hazard risk, the NRI includes measures of social vulnerability and community resilience, which estimate a community’s ability to withstand or recover from the impacts of natural hazards.
